Why is it We Choose the Careers We Do?

I visited the Menomonie Wastewater Plant this fine morning. During the tour, it made me wonder why someone would choose to work there. i mean the smell was horrible, all the time. as in it never went away. some places were better than others but it was pretty raunchy. We learned about all of the steps that are taken to clean the water and what happens with all of the materials that are taken out of it. by the end of the tour i realized the impact that the plant was making on the society around us. someone commented that that whole place smelt like mexico, and she was right because they don't have plants like we do to clean our water waste. they dump it back into streams that eventually lead to the ocean and then we go on vacation there to swim with the dolphins and take pictures on the beach. with out these water treatment plants, where would all the shit go? literally. Anyone who first arrives at a plant would question why anyone would want to work there, but after the tour i saw why someone would choose that career.

First of all, someone has to do it. And secondly, it could be found it very rewarding. The people who are dealing with our water are doing a dirty job but they are doing it for all of us. They are putting water back in to the Red Cedar River that is actually cleaner than it was originally. they make it so that we can go boating in the river and water ski behind the wake. with out them there would be diseases spreading of all different types. someone could find that really rewarding and thats why they would choose that profession

A common saying is "those who cant do, teach." well this could be true in some cases. but teaching is also very rewarding. helping someone understand something or guiding them when learning certain skills can be very rewarding. you will be there and see the moment that what it is your pushing finally gets through and they can now use it to be more successful!

All careers have something rewarding to them. if all that is rewarding to is is only getting your pay check every friday, then you have a job. a career is something that you can be passionate about and have the urge to succeed.
